dr. Drew crawford
For more than twenty years, Drew has helped his patients redefine their lifestyle and elevate their well-being by addressing obesity for what it is: the leading cause of poor health and disability. Combining his interests with his education, Dr. Crawford is board certified in gastroenterology from the American Board of Osteopathic Internal Medicine and in obesity medicine from the American Board of Obesity Medicine. As a practicing gastroenterologist, Drew is interested in disease prevention, health promotion, and is a proponent of healthy lifestyles and reasonable nutrition.
The best part? Drew practices what he preaches! Outside of work, it is common you will find him dedicating his free time to physical endurance activities with both his family and friends. His passion for healthy lifestyles, coupled with his desire for adventure, has led him to finishing three IronMan Triathlons, becoming a Boston Qualifier in the 2024 Eugene Marathon, and living life to the absolute fullest (whether that takes him 10,000ft in the air or 100ft underwater).
The little boy
Drew was born in Kansas, completing his family of six! He is one of four children, and is both the youngest and only boy! By the time he was 15, they had lived in three states, four cities, and had attended five different schools! The bright side of moving so much? He perfected his interpersonal skills, discovered just exactly who he was, and realized his family was always his home.
The doctor
Taking steps to fulfill his dream of becoming a doctor, Drew earned his acceptance into medical school and moved to Tulsa to begin his newest adventure as an Oklahoma State Cowboy. Little did he know, he would meet his wife of 28+ years in the school's library one day before classes began!
After his graduation from medical school, he fulfilled his internal medicine residency at Oklahoma State University and his gastroenterology fellowship at Baylor Scott & White Hospital.
With a new title, Drew moved back to Tulsa to serve as a gastroenterologist to the community that always felt like home.

The dad
Drew has accomplished many dreams throughout his life, but none will measure up to marrying his wife, Dr. Lisa Crawford, and raising six incredible children alongside her.
Drew's favorite title is dad, and boy does he take it seriously! From little league games to high school sports, Drew's six kids adopted his joy in staying active. Whether this meant defending the end-zone, shooting free-throws, riding in marathons alongside dad, lacing up cross-country shoes, playing 18 holes on the golf course, or spiking the volleyball, his kids always knew where to find mom and dad - cheering them on loudly from the front row!
Just a few numbers short of building their own football team, the Crawfords will always be Loyal and True to their Oklahoma State Cowboys. As of 2024, 75% of the Crawfords became a Cowboy themselves... Go Pokes!
The dreamer
Every boy dreams of becoming a firefighter, and Drew was not immune to this powerful aspiration (encouraged by the 1972 TV series, Emergency!). Funny enough, being a DJ was a close second in his list of life goals (doctor was tied for first)!
Drew began investing into this passion as a junior in high school, where he attended EMT school at night at the Delaware County Community College. During his senior year, Drew practically lived at the fire station, volunteering his time to respond to 911 calls as an ambulance driver!
After graduation, Drew moved halfway across the country to attend the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma. Finding a new itch to become a doctor and loving his work as a firefighter, Drew chased both dreams and chose a major that would be applicable in both fields: chemistry.
When Drew was not studying, he was completing various firefighter programs in the area. He worked full-time as a Paramedic/Firefighter at the Chickasha Fire/EMS Department and part-time as a Paramedic at EMSA during his college career.
Before serving his time as a firefighter and paramedic in Norman, Drew worked at the local Radio Shack to stay around the music scene and keep his goal of being a DJ alive! Although Drew chased other dreams at full-force, he has, once again, found a way to chase all his dreams at once; hence, the launch of the BMI Podcast!
The educator
Always a fan of growth, learning, and education, Drew's educational career did not stop after medical school. He achieved his Master of Business Administration from Oklahoma State University 11 years later.
Drew's educational journey has led him to practice as a 2x board-certified physician, to teach as a clinical adjunct professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at Oklahoma State University, and to be the program director of the gastroenterologist fellowship at Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences.
He is privileged to give back to the medical community by training the next generation of gastroenterologists.
The runner
Drew's form of therapy is running, so you won't catch him running less than six miles a day!
Drew is often signing up for half-marathons and marathons nationwide, but his favorite runs are alongside his kids! His special needs son is his most consistent partner on these runs, but the others are starting to catch up.
Drew doesn't just stop there! He has also participated in multiple century rides, attended 5am CrossFit classes with three of his six kids (you heard that right... 5am!), and recently qualified for the Boston Marathon inside Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon (talk about a runner's high)! When it comes to staying active, Drew is all about it.
The adventure-seeker
Drew's zest for adrenaline-spiking adventures has been adopted by his kids, and they are not slowing down soon!
Having a buddy (or six) to scuba dive 100ft underwater in the Bahamas or paraglide 10,000ft in the Teton sky makes it all the more worthwhile - and Drew is ready for all of his kids' crazy ideas!
After meeting and running a few miles with the father-son duo, Team Hoyt, in one of the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathons, Drew felt inspired. His second oldest son is wheelchair bound, and they decided they were going to participate in marathons together... so Drew signed them up! Drew's son sat front row, providing smiles and giggles as the wind brushed through his hair, while Drew ran and pushed him for 26.2 miles!
When his oldest daughter was 24 hours away from her college move-in day, she decided she wanted to skydive out of a plane for her very first plane ride ever... so Drew signed them up! That day, the whole family gathered on the ground to watch her and Drew jump out of a perfectly functioning plane for 10,000ft!
His oldest son had the wild idea to run his first marathon at the tail-end of an IronMan Triathlon... so Drew signed them up! On race day, the whole family gathered along the 140.6 mile course to watch him and Drew swim 2.4 miles, bike 112 miles, and run 26.2 miles. They completed the 17-hour race day with a fist-bump as they crossed the finish line together.
In true sibling fashion, this quickly became a competition of who could tell the coolest adrenaline-spiking story with dad. The IronMan Triathlon was granted a three year contract in Tulsa, and Drew competed in all three. The first with his oldest son, the second with his oldest daughter and third oldest son, and the third with his third oldest son (again!). Each time, the kids wanted to try a crazy adventure with their dad... so Drew signed them up!
Stay tuned for the future adventures Drew and his kids will go on... there's talk about competing in the World Marathon Challenge (7 Marathons, 7 Continents, 7 Days) or bungee jumping off a crazy tall bridge! Just know, whatever crazy idea his kids are willing to try to really lean into adventure and LIVE... Drew will sign them up!
